Where The Heart Is Challenge #3: Winter Blues

Happy Monday!
Well, it's time for the new challenge for Where the Heart Is Challenge Blog.
Our theme for November will be Winter Blues.
I love winter, although where I live do not have the season of winter, but i just love this season because it reminds me of Christmas! Yay!

This is my project for this month Challenge, a winter blues mixed media canvas with Lacy Sunshine - Melanie Boo's- The Christmas Star.

I colored my image with color pencil, then i cut out my image with the Spellbinders Nestabilities Floral Ovals dies and i distress the border with the Distress Ink - Tumbled Glass.
To begin my canvas background, the first step i do is put on the color papers and lace with the Golden Gel Medium on the canvas.
Next, I cover the canvas with Gesso before applying any color on top.
Then, i apply my first thin layer of the Distress Ink - Broken China through out the canvas. After it's dry, i tab on the Broken China with Distress Paint around the canvas border. I prefer to tab the color randomly as i wanted the color appear as not smooth so that it creates the layers on the canvas.

After the color is dry, I apply some Golden Glass Beads Gel Medium at the border.
It help to create the snowy look after it dry.
Last, i decorate the canvas with the snowflake die cuts and some rhinestone and sequins.

Here is the closer look for my canvas, hope you like my project today.

Growing in Unity - Day 5

Hi hi, welcome back for my last day as GIU girl this week. Have you following my post since Monday? If no, you can start from Day 1 and do leave comment on each post for a chance to win 2 Itty Bitty Stamp by end of the week.

As today is the last day as GIU girl for me, i would like to share a mixed media tag for Christmas.
This is the first time i'm using Suzi Blu stamp on my artwork, and i'm pretty nervous as i never try on her stamps before.
When i took out the tag (which is the free gift from Unity order), my mind just kept thinking about this stamp.
Did i mentioned how i get this stamp from Unity? I actually got it from one of the grab bag which i purchased last year. This stamp has been sitting in my stamp folder for a year, and finally i used it for this project.
To cut the story short, I've a simple tutorial show as below.

First, i colored my tag with Tim Holtz Distress Paint: Picked Raspberry and China Blue.
The fun of distress paint is it will react to water and you can blend the color easily when it is wet! If you would like to learn more about distress paint, you can check out the video here.
This is how my tag look like after it is dry.

Next, i pick up 2 snowflake stamps from Snowflake kisses kit which i share in my yesterday's post. I stamp up both stamps randomly on my tag with Brilliance Moonlight White stamp pad.

Next, i stamp up the Boy Exclusive stamp on a white card stock, colored it and cut out the image as below.

Last, I stamp a Christmas sentiment from Everything Christmas sentiment kit on a piece of card stock. I roll up the head and bottom of the card stock to make it look like a scroll.
Then,  i add in establishments like paper flowers and ribbon to complete my tag.

Tell your a good news, Unity is having a Suzi Blu Sales this weekend, grab all the Suzi Blu stamps now, it's 50% off this week!

Do you like my tag today?
Kindly share your thought with me, i will pick a lucky person tomorrow and he/she will have a chance to get 2 Itty Bitty stamp for free!
Thanks for reading my post and leaving comments throughout these 5 days, do keep an eye tomorrow as i will announce the winner by tomorrow.
Happy Halloween!

Growing in Unity - Day 4

Hi friends, welcome back for my day 4 GIU sharing!
Just a quick recap if you have not visit my blog last few days, kindly please check out my sharing from Day 1 here. I am sharing my projects/ artworks using Unity Stamp from Monday till Friday this week.
Do remember to leave me a comment on each post for a chance to win 2 Itty Bitty stamps as i will pick a lucky person from all the comments in these 5 days.

This is the card i want to share today, using Unity Snowflake Kisses kit.
Do you love snowflake as i do? To be honest, I never have a chance to enjoy the snowing season as it's summer throughout the year in my country.
I just hope that there is one day, i can have a chance to celebrate Christmas in a Winter Wonderland. that sound really good. :)

Below is the simple tutorial for making my card, you can always apply different colors and try with your own design later.

First, cut out 4 pieces of small square card stock, then colored the card stock with Distress Paint. (I'm using Broken China & Evergreen Bough)
Sorry that my camera cannot really capture the 2 colors actually is different here. :(

Next, choose 2 snowflakes stamps from the kit, and emboss the snowflakes image with white emboss powder on the square cards. This is how it look like after emboss. You may want to try with other color of your choice.

Then, using the same snowflakes, i'm stamp on another white card stock with blue stamp pad to create a nice background, and i ink up the sentiment from the same kit too.

Last, stick up your square card pieces with 3D adhesive foam to create a 3D 'tiles' card.
I've add in the twine bow as decoration. You may add in some bling stone as decoration too.

The beautiful snowflake Christmas card is ready, do you like it?

That's all for my sharing today, do remember to come back tomorrow for my last day of GIU sharing.
Stay tune... ...

FWF - May PEACE be with you

Hi friends, it's Friday today, and i'm so excited to share with your my tag for my "angel". :)

In order to create the background, i'm playing along with these 2 color Distress Paint. I have learn the technique from this video.

An this is how it looks like after drying.

To create the motive background, i'm stamping the image with emboss effect from Warm wishes Kit

Then, I colored the Arianna girl with Fine Color Marker and decorate the tag with some Prima Flowers and metal Charms.

To make the Arianna Girl look special, i added some Stickles on the dress, and i do like the outcome of the "blink" effect on her dress.

That's all for today post, happy weekend!

Mixed Media Canvas - Present for 21st Birthday Girl

From previous post, your know that I love to do handmade item from friends birthday. Well, this round i decided to do a canvas as a present for my junior birthday, who are celebrating her 21st Birthday this year!
Browsing through her photos, and i decided to do a layout with this photo, where all my lovely junior is in the photo.

This is my 3rd time hands on Mixed Media Canvas, and with the advice from my scrappy friend - Angeline, I'm trying to used Tim Holtz Distress Paint for this canvas.

To make you have a better idea, i just let you know what I've used for the layout. First, you need to have a 12" x 12" canvas (mine is canvas board), then get your favorite distress paint color (mine is Mustard Seed & Broken China).

For the background, i'm using tissue papers, some pattern papers, lace and Burlap. Then you may want to have some embellishments like flowers, metal charms, stickers, ribbons, stencil with spray paints and etc.

This is the final layout, and after I've done, i really fall in love with it, it's all my hard work there!

In my layout, I'm using some Prima flowers and some metal charms from Prima as well. Notice the brown and yellow pattern behind the flowers? I'm using the spray paint with stencil to create the effect.

Then I'm adding the die cut Happy Birthday words on a burlap, adding with a metal key and butterfly. I do used the Classified Newsprint Stamp from Unity to enhance the background, then at used the yellow alphabet sticker to form her name.

This is a close up for a corner. I add a die cut butterfly strip which i bought over from a bazaar, and it just look pretty good with the layout.

Here is another corner close up.

I'm not really good in posting tutorial, but i think i can try one next time.
Thanks for stopping by.
